On the basis of documents of the Scientific Archive of the Komi Science Centre, Ural Branch, RAS, the period of formation of the academic institution in the 1940-s is considered. The sources most brightly reflecting "live" history of the first decade of existence of the Komi Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences were selected. Peculiarities of culture, organization of professional space and public life of the scientific community are shown.
