The article analyzes the problems of youth employment and unemployment, considered in the axiological aspect, conditioned by the processes of commercialization of various spheres of public life in modern Russia. As the empirical material, the results of all-Russian and regional sociological surveys and statistical surveys were used. The method of secondary data analysis was used in the work. The article draws the following conclusion. The problem of youth labor activity in modern conditions is associated not only with objective socio-economic conditions, but also with value orientations that form high consumer standards for young people. In the conditions of the discrepancy between the overestimated level of the desired material benefits and the institutional means of their achievement through work, deviant models of youth behavior in the labor market are formed, which young people themselves do not perceive as a deviation.
