The article considers attractiveness of the Republic of Dagestan as a travel destination, discusses the main directions of the travel and recreation industry development in the republic. The author describes in detail the current situation in the travel industry of Dagestan, outlines its development prospects. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the questions of the travel industry development are considered at the republican level (Government Decree of the Republic of Dagestan “Concerning the state program of the Republic of Dagestan "Development of travel and recreation industry in the Republic of Dagestan for 2014-2018“,“Concerning the image policy conception of the Republic of Dagestan“).
