The paper discusses the biography and career as a painter of the Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR, the People’s Artist of the Bashkir ASSR Alexander Erastovich Tyulkin, who is considered to be one of the founders of Bashkir school of painters. The research demonstrated the artist’s interest in studying the culture, traditions and way of life of the indigenous peoples of the Bashkir ASSR and their reflection in his works along with his favorite motives of the urban outskirts of Ufa. The author determined that the artist’s paintings reflected his mood. It was noted that he went on expeditions of Ufa Art Museum. The research highlighted the impact of A.E. Tyulkin as a teacher on education and the choice of the path of creative self-determination by a new generation of Bashkir artists and identified his personal contribution to the development of Bashkir school of painters in the first half of the 20th century.
