At the barrier (psychologism of Lermontov’s depiction)

Бесплатный доступ

Lermontov demonstrates the ability to get deeply into the inner life of his characters. In the paper the crucial scene in the story “Princess Mary” – the scene of the duel – is selected for the analysis. Grushnitski had lived clumsy and feigned false life. But at the last line he passed the examination for being human, and proved that he was a man of honor and conscience. Pechorin had managed to gather enough facts that mute the voice of his conscience, which would not allow it to cancel the fatal shot. But he was for months replaying the dramatic events before the court of his conscience, until he recorded them without hiding episodes in which he was not quite right.
