Based on the analysis of the English-language edition of The Times, the interaction of the international community in Manchuria in 1931-1932 is considered. The research emphasizes the attempt to resolve the conflict between China and Japan by means of the world community. The foreign policy course of the great powers is shown. The attitude of the League of Nations to the ongoing processes in the East is described. The cooperation of the influential actors on the global political scene resulted in the signing of the cease-fire agreement between Japan and China in May 5, 1932 and the establishment of a demilitarized zone in Shanghai. Besides, the authors concluded that the world community activities had been offset by an aggressive policy of militarist Japan. An overt challenge and a violation of international law and treaties through the use of force prevailed.
