In understanding such terms of Christian theology as “essence” and “hypostasis” in the patristic literature, the Aristotelian categories of the general and the specific are usually used. As a result, certain difficulties arise in understanding the personal aspect of the Deity. In this article, the principle of “antinomy” is considered, a principle is used in Christian theology in order to overcome these kinds of logical contradictions when trying to understand the Mystery of the Divine Being. Te author analyzes how this principle is used by the Cappadiocian Fathers in formulating a conceptual apparatus for trinitarian theology
