The article deals with the problem of evaluation and interpretation of Ihering’s legal doctrine in modern legal literature. The study shows that interest in his works has considerably increased in recent decades. It is caused by similarity and relevance of a number of positions stated and formulated by the thinker on the role of law in the life of society and civil communication as a factor of positive social changes and social development. Besides, the author concludes that the problem of lack of translations of several Ihering’s works (first of all the main ones) is still urgent, although their role in explanation of genesis and development of the thinker’s legal doctrine is quite significant.
