Old believers’ satirical composition “Hellish newspaper” in assessments given by A.S. Prugavin and A.N. Afansyev

Contribution of the famous pre-revolutionary researcher of the old belief A.S. Prugavin into the study of the folk satirical work “Hellish newspaper” (“Adskaya Gazeta”) is assessed. There are two versions of the work: the Orthodox and the Old Believers’ version. A.S. Prugavin analyzed the text of this work using two lists, which were published by A.N. Afanasyev for the first time in the middle of the XIX century. The researcher highlighted the key points of the work based on which the work can be identified as an Old Believers’ satire.
