The chemical composition of ciano-bacterial mates of soda lakes and hot springs of the Baikal region has been investigated. Ciano-bacterial mates have a high quantity of carbohydrates because of their structural, shape-generating and protective functions. Carbohydrates include glucose, rhamnose, galactose, mannose, xylose, arabinose fucose) and ribose. Despite the similarity of species composition, the studied mats differed in carbohydrate composition.
