Threat of water and energy resources depletion for the countries of Central Asia: factors for co-operation

Climate change and increasing resource consumption have exacerbated the problem of depleting water and energy resources in Central Asia. Under conditions of geopolitical instability, the region faces challenges that require revision of the mechanisms of interaction between the countries. The article aims to identify institutional, legal and political barriers to sustainable water and energy co-operation in Central Asia, with a focus on the Kyrgyz Republic. Based on the analysis of existing agreements, international practice and domestic policies of the countries of the region, proposals for the development of cooperation in this area are formulated.
