The article presents the information about Russian monastery churches of the 12th century preserved in the Kiev Chronicle of 1198 (part of the Hypatian Codex). The examined evidence is of unique nature. Taking the history of St. Kirill’s Monastery founded by the Kievan prince Vsevolod Olgovich as an example, the author of the article proves that the data from the Hypatian Codex is crucially important when it comes to solving a number of controversial issues widely discussed in scholarly literature. Compared against the Laurentian Codex, the Kiev Chronicle of 1198 from the Hypatian Codex appears to be a valuable source of information on Russian monasteries and monastery churches in the period under study.
