The urbanism of Anatoly Korolev (the novel "Eron")

Бесплатный доступ

The article focuses on the image of a city as the world in the novel "Eron" (published in part in 1994 and 2009) by Anatoly Korolev, the contemporary Russian prosaic. The cultural and philosophical references abundant in the novel and the nature of the author’s artistic imagination give a common ground to the novel’s interpretations and modern urban studies. This illustrates the general tendency in modern and postmodern literature to perceive the city as palimpsest or super-text. The "city text" by A. Korolev (chronotopos, mythological, symbolical, archetypical connotation, semantics, the system of motives and poetics) is analysed in the context of the prose of the 1980-s and the current literary process.
