Level of economic security of the real sector of the economy in border regions of Russia

In the economic security system of the Russian Federation at the regional level, border regions play a significant role, performing special geopolitical and geo-economic functions. The economy of the border regions of the Russian Federation has significant development potential, which can ensure the economic sovereignty of the state. Most regions have significant natural, climatic and human potential necessary for the development of the real sector of the economy. However, the regional economies are significantly differentiated according to most socio-economic indicators. Factors hindering their development include single-industry economic activity, insufficient transport infrastructure, geographical distance from large centers, lack of investment, etc. In this regard, the study is devoted to assessing the typology of border regions according to levels of economic security. The main objectives of the study include the analysis of indicators that allow us to identify the main positive and negative reasons for the development of the real sector of the economy. The result of the study is the identification of the leading border regions, including the Far Eastern subjects of the Russian Federation - Primorsky Krai and Amur Region. Lagging regions are characterized by agricultural specialization, insufficient investment in the manufacturing industry and objective historical reasons.
