On the materials of criminal cases on fraud on a particularly large scale, the author analyzes the current practice of a specialist and an independent expert in the trial. Considers how the expert’s analysis and calculations affect the court’s decision. Discloses the mechanisms for identifying inconsistencies in the evaluation reports submitted by the prosecution and disputing unreliable data. Offers a conceptual approach to the preparation of reviews of forensic examinations. Concludes the need to submit independent evaluation reports to the court in order to reach a fair sentence.
