The article describes theoretical approaches to the study of sustainable fashion in modern scientific discourse. The author identifies the following areas in the interpretation of the “sustainable fashion industry”: environmental, social, cultural, educational, analysis of consumer behavior, the concept of practices. The first one is based on the study of the life cycle of sustainable fashion products. The social approach develops the ideas of social justice and the protection of workers’ rights in the fashion industry. It is emphasized that sustainable fashion is studied through the prism of consumer behavior and is defined as a cultural trend aimed at promoting environmentally friendly and ethical products. Due to the importance of implementing sustainable development in the fashion industry, fashion education should include appropriate practices in the curriculum. The actor-network theory offers an exploratory logic for interpreting sustainable fashion as a hybrid of nature and culture. It is shown that sustainable fashion research is interdisciplinary in nature. The study allows filling the gap in knowledge about the impact of “sustainable trends” on the transformation of fashion and consumer behavior.
