The establishment of protestantism in England during the reign of Elizabeth I in contemporary British historiography

The article deals with the understanding of the process of dissemination and establishment of Protestantism in England in the second half of the 16th century in contemporary British historiography. The author has examined the approaches to these problems proposed by historians belonging to liberal and revisionist trends existing in this field of historical study. The author showed that the process of establishment of Protestantism in England went on several decades after the legislative establishment of Protestantism in 1559. The Parliamentary Settlement of 1559 gave only legislative foundation to this process.
