V. Grossman’s sketches on the Battle of Stalingrad are considered in the papers, the artistic originality in the problem of a warrior’s inner feat is analised. The article is a comprehensive study of all the sketches in the cycle and is characterized by a successive evolution of the notion “feat of self-overcoming”.
