Provided a definition of Web-GIS systems and shown their place in the hierarchy of information systems, working with spatial data. Clarified the scope, features and advantages of Web-GIS technologies.There are described the main directions of Web-GIS technologies development. Provided examples of three representative Web GIS projects: «Public Cadaster Map», «Space Images-Fires», Global Forest Watch.
