Nowadays practically all research organizations have their own websites. Their content is based on general principles of web space forming, but different institutions have their own peculiarities concerning search systems, registration of visitors, and information content. Consequently the quality of information posting on the website takes on great significance. In modern conditions, website is the hallmark of organization determining its image.The article presents issues of arranging information space in the Institute of Socio-Economic Development of Territories of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Special attention is paid to analyzing statistics of the Institute's website traffic, taking into account number of page views and number of registrations on the website. On the basis of analysis the main ways to improve information policy of the research institute are specified.
