The Upper Pleistocene deposits situated in the Chyornaya River valley (the far north of European Russia) were studied. Palynological spectra of the Byzovaya (Middle Valday) lacustrine and bog sediments proved the suggestion that the Middle Valdai warm interval was an interstadial; it was the coldest period compared to other Pleistocene interglacials. The detailed study of the lithology of tills allowed to determine the stratigraphic position of the Vychegda (Moscovian) and Polar (Upper Valday) tills. Ages of the tills in studied sections can be regarded as confidently ascertained due to the application of complex methods: lithological, microtheriological and palynological.
