Vertical labor: modern trend in obstetrics or forgotten wisdom of nature?

A comparative analysis of the act of delivery and postpartum period, the condition of newborn infants of mothers who assumed a vertical positions in labor (100 patients) and traditional dorsal position (100 patients). It was found in the first group that when patients assume a vertical position, the outcomes of labor were more favourable for both the mother and newborn, fewer drugs had to be administered, the rate of obstetrical trauma was low (10 %), the condition of newborns at the 5-th minute by Apgar scale was better. The obtained findings provide a base for further study and practical implementation of this delivery method.
