In 1883, there was a post of the vice-governor in Yakutsk region. The different previous studies reviewed the Yakut vice-governor while examining the governor activities. The relevance of this paper is determined by the fact that the service of vice-governors is insufficiently described, and it is of great interest to many researchers. The vice-governor was the closest administrative assistant to the governor; he was supposed to have managerial competence. The author emphasized that, in the first place, the well-educated officials with management experience came to Yakutsk region. The relationship between the governor and his assistant played a great role because any confrontation was harmful to the common cause, and good business relations had a positive impact on the activities of regional government. The study proved that the post of vice-governor in Yakutsk region was not official. In the absence of the chief, the vice-governor made decisions independently and was responsible for any actions and events in the region. As many people were exiled to Yakutia, the exile arrangements and the supervision of exiles were the key elements in the vice-governor activities, as he had to personally control these preparations. For most vice-governors, coming to the outskirts of the empire was an opportunity to prove themselves and make progress in a career. The author concluded about the role and contribution of every vice-governor to the history of Yakutsk region.
