The article is devoted to the actual artistic practice of video art in the context of “visual turn”, which embraced modern culture and led to the emergence of media art on the background of convergence of photography, film and television with computer and telecommunication technologies. As a result, there is an expansion of the field for producing new meanings and images in the rhizomatic media environment, It is the use of art technologies based on video images that became the basis for the development of the whole “art of new media”. Video art appears in the West as a protest against social control and trampling on the idea of freedom, which are carried in the capitalist society by the media, engaged in total control of society, the construction of social reality, public discourse and behavior. Moreover, video art appears in contrast to mass culture and television, its main theme was the demonstration of technology as such. Video art, like many other artistic practices of postmodern culture, is interconnected with other types of art, for example, with conceptualism. It can be presented as a performance, action, installation. This art reflects the eclectic and mosaic nature of the artistic culture of our time, the artists ‘ craving for experiment and innovation in the artistic space, hybridity, eclecticism, simulation, play and experiment. Therefore, it is very likely that this direction will develop further along with the evolution of mass media.
