This article examines the complex and multilayered issue of what factors influence the formation of a crime victim . The authors focus on the fact that there is no single answer to the question of the causes of victimization, and researchers from different fields, such as criminology, psychology and sociology, continue to study this problem . The main idea of the article is that a person’s victimization behavior is determined not only by his or her personal characteristics, but also by the social environment in which he or she finds himself or herself, especially in the context of the penitentiary system . The authors note that the main task of modern victimization research is to classify crime victims according to various criteria, including socio-demographic and psychological attributes . For example, occupation, age, gender and personality traits (trustworthiness, aggressiveness, etc .) may influence the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime . A key point is the discussion of violent crime in prison and its relationship to the informal hierarchy that exists among inmates . It is important to note here that victimization behavior is often related to social status in this hierarchy . Inmates with low status are more likely to become victims of violence because they cannot stand up to more authoritative members of the community . The authors emphasize that victimization behavior is not a static characteristic, but can manifest itself depending on the situation in which the victim finds himself or herself . For example, it is important to distinguish between conscious and unconscious opposition to the norms of the prison environment .In conclusion, the article argues for the need for a more in-depth approach to understanding victimization behavior, taking into account socio-psychological factors, in order to develop more effective crime prevention strategies . The authors call for a comprehensive victim classification model that can incorporate all aspects of victimization and assist in developing solutions based on scientific evidence and practical experience .
