The educational system of Russia is considered in the context of a new information reality. The analysis of socio-cultural foundations contributing to the virtualization of the educational space of modern Russian society is carried out. The positive and negative aspects of the transformation of the Russian educational space and its social consequences for the progressive development of society are revealed. The prospects of virtualization of the educational space and key trends that play a significant role in personality development, expanding opportunities for advanced training, self-study, and self-development are shown, which turns the principle of continuous education into an objective reality.
