Viral infection as risk factor of the onset of atherosclerosis

A significant decrease in the concentration of cholesterol in blood of individuals with a high concentration of antibodies of class IgG+ to Cytomegalovirus infections, as well as in the group of patients with sharp respiratory viral diseases, compared to the control group, is revealed. Lowering of cholesterol leverl at the peak of disease and restoration of its normal values after 12 days confirm the ability of viruses (during sharp respiratory viral diseases, in particular) to attack the wall of blood vessels, thus being possible risk factors for the onset of atherosclerosis.
