Byzantine and Russian statehood in the works of academician George Ostrogorsky

This paper discusses some aspects of Byzantine statehood and their influence on the formation of Russian statehood. In particular, the concepts of Byzantine universalism as expounded by Academician George Ostrogorsky, as well as the Byzantine project of a “table of ranks” from the era of Tsar Fyodor Alekseyevich studied by Ostrogorsky, are considered.
