Visual city model in the context of modern urbanism

The relevance of the presented topic is determined by the attention to the urban discourse and the study of the modern city in terms of the development of its visual component. The author proposes and deciphers the concept of visual model of the city, which is the basis for the implementation of solutions in the field of visual urbanism. It is proposed to consider two types of visual models - abstract and concrete. The abstract visual model of the city is considered as an abstract conceptual scheme that helps to establish connections between the plastic and structural components of the urban space and determine the parameters of the visual environment organization without regard to a specific urban space. The use of this scheme in relation to a specific, really developing urban space allows you to create a specific visual model of the city. Fundamental categories of space, time and matter are proposed as key categories underlying the visual model. The method of developing a visual model of the city is based on the incorporation of the visual component into the “space - time - matter” system.
