D. A. Milyutin's contribution in the development of the russian military science

The article is devoted to the consideration of the scientific and research activities of the reformer and statesman D.A. Milyutin. During the disclosure of this part of his biography, the author made an attempt to analyze and evaluate the main scientific and theoretical works of Milyutin in the field of history and military statistics. The character of the scientific and theoretical analysis of military science by Milyutin during his service in the Guards General Staff and at the military theater of the Caucasian wars of 1817-1864, as well as during the teaching activity, is shown. The main points of the projects developed by Milyutin for correcting the shortcomings of the military system of the Russian Empire are brought into account. It is noted that the results of Milyutin's scientific research found their practical expression during the Russo-Turkish 1877-1878 period and the Caucasus in 1817-1864, and later in the period of military reforms of the 1860s-1870s. The author comes to the conclusion that by expanding the methodology of military-strategic analysis and introducing a multifactor analysis into the turnover of the study of military science, Milyutin enriched subject greatly, and Milyutin's scientific and research experience, to a large extent, enabled him to solve state problems effectively affairs of 1861-1881.
