The article considers the historical aspect of the development of education in the Irkutsk Region from the 18 th century to the 1820s that is directly related to the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in this area. The issues concerning the dependence of educational sphere development of Siberian peoples and the Orthodoxy have been analyzed.
