The article considers the phenomenon of trust as the fundamental basis of the information and communication processes. The author analyzes etymology and genesis of the concept, as well as peculiarities of its application in politics and in the development of socio-cultural and communicative media systems in the era of post-truth and considers trust as a system property of the information and communication processes. The article identifies the main factors and conditions that affect the increase in the level of trust in society as a condition for its socio-economic development in a digital civilization. The author substantiates the necessity of increasing the level of trust in the mass media, the structures of power and administration with a view to consolidating the society and raising the level and quality of life of the population.
