Impact of economic activity on the environment in border regions

The article deals with the study of the relation between national economy and the environment with a focus on the border regions of Eastern Russia. The main purpose of this study is to develop the models that would describe the impact of modernization and environmental investments on ecological showings. In our work we use the statistical methods; the analysis and estimation of results were performed by STATA. The authors have elaborated the information system for the selection and preliminary panel data processing. The results show that the relation between environmental indicators and GDP is observed only in atmospheric emissions. We found out that statistical characteristics of the model for the regions, involved in transboundary cooperation with China, are not high. The level of environmental investments is much lower than the federal one; it does not correlate with the GDP per capita, and is evidently insufficient for effective protection of the environment.
