Space weather effect on engineering systems: failures in the railway telemetry during geomagnetic storms

In the paper we investigated the effect of geomagnetic disturbances on operation of automatics and telemechanics of the midlatitude railway. We used the data on failures registered at the East Siberian Railway in 2004-2005. We revealed that the diurnal failure duration T and the local geomagnetic activity index A demonstrate a high correlation level during disturbed periods.
