The impact of cross-disciplinary scientific research on the development of the innovative potential of the university

The number of interdisciplinary studies in Russian universities has increased significantly over the past decade. The growth of the number of scientific publications, competitions held by scientific foundations, their topics, new interdisciplinary educational programs of leading universities testify to this. The work considers the case of the Samara State Technical University for the implementation of interdisciplinary projects and educational programs. Included observation at the university ‘s development strategy events as part of the study. Interdisciplinary scientific research helps to overcome stereotypical thinking in decision-making, develop new knowledge, create conditions for the development of participants and universities, strive to work in research groups, develop new competencies and acquire new skills, and apply various research approaches. Scientists recognize the limitations of their field of knowledge in dealing with complex issues and conduct interdisciplinary research. The article analyzed studies at the border of technical (engineering) and social (economics) sciences, used existing ideas about logic of interdisciplinary. The author identified broad groups of problems related to participation in interdisciplinary research, ways to overcome obstacles to their development. The author used sociological tools: included observation and expert interview.
