The impact of the global economic crisis on the development of tourism in Russia

The article discusses development of the tourism industry in the contemporary Russian Federation. Basing upon the statistic data, the author states the fact that there is a decrease of the number of Russian tourists choosing foreign countries as a travel destination, establishes the causes of this phenomenon (devaluation of the ruble, complicated geopolitical situation). The paper notes the decreased number of international visitors from the US and Europe with simultaneous increase of the number of visitors from China and other Asian countries. Special attention is paid to the need for promotion of the domestic tourism, consideration for challenges hindering effective development of this sector.
