The article examines the relationship between the interest in Russian themes in Hollywood cinema and the current situation in Russian-American relations. Tracing the history of American cinema since the 1930s, the author demonstrates how its ideological emphasis changed, first in relation to the Soviet Union and then to the Russian Federation. In particular, in the post-Soviet period, in the Hollywood film production initially dominated a neutral or even positive presentation of «Russian material», but as the Russian Federation emerged from Western control, the tone changed dramatically - a critical or even denigrating line began to dominate. Taking into account the continuation of the special military operation, we can predict the emergence of new anti-Russian propaganda films on the «Ukrainian theme».
