Investments are the most important factor in the development of any of the sectors of the national economy. In recent years, the Russian Federation has been under pressure from international sanctions, which have received unprecedented development this year. The prospects for reformatting the global political and economic space necessitate the formation of a favorable investment climate within the country. In the course of the work, the dynamics of investments in fixed assets of key sectors of the Russian Federation for the period 2016-2020 was analyzed. In the course of the study, it was found that the total volume of investments in fixed assets has increased, and most of their structure is accounted for by private ownership. Mining, Transportation and storage, and Manufacturing industries are among the most attractive for investment. It was also found that foreign direct investment has decreased in dynamics and the most attractive in this category of investment are Mining, Wholesale and retail trade and Manufacturing. The direct impact of changes in the volume of investments on the change in the share of shipped goods of own production, works and services performed by own in the country’s GDP has not been established. The debatable nature of the problem of creating a favorable investment climate within the country in the light of recent events is gaining new urgency and requires operational changes in the state policy in terms of attracting foreign investment and protecting domestic capital invested in the development of key industries, as new opportunities may open up for the Russian Federation in the global raw materials and food markets.
