The study is devoted to the influence of households on the state of commodity exchange through the sphere of consumption. The concepts of scientists regarding the consumer behavior of a person under the influence of surrounding institutions, taking into account social status, authority, and power, were analyzed. The conclusion is made about the increase in the consumer society with the growth of incomes of a separate part of the population. At the same time, it has been established that the turnover of retail trade as part of the commodity exchange also depends on income. In this context, a multiple regression model was built that linked the retail sale of cars, as an element of conspicuous consumption, with their domestic production, consumer loans, car imports, and real disposable money income. The economic-mathematical model showed a high forecast level (R2 = 81%) and revealed a high positive dependence of car purchases on the level of income, more than on the production of cars and their imports. A negative relationship was identified between car purchases and consumer loans. In general, the study revealed, on the one hand, the existence of conspicuous consumption through the purchase of cars by high-income groups of the population, on the other hand, the need to increase the volume of domestic production of quality goods in order to increase effective reproduction exchange.
