The present paper is devoted to the main issues concerning the formation of general professional competencies in the conditions of project activities. Particular attention is paid to the impact of digi-talization on project activities in the educational environment of the university. A comprehensive comparative analysis of the modern labor market, as well as the correspondence between the competencies being formed and the requirements of potential employers to a graduate in "Economics"profile "Finance and Credit" was carried out. The authors noted that in the Russian Federation professions in the field of economics and finance are in high demand and highly paid and this trend will continue in the digital era. The project activities implemented in the educational process contribute to better training of specialists for real professional activity.
