Influence of vegetation cover on the flow of the Aktay river

Using the computer program "Hydrograph", the influence of vegetation on the flow of the Aktay river flowing through the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan was determined. In order to determine this effect, observed (actual) and calculated (modeled) flow hydrographs were constructed and compared for two catchment areas that were homogeneous in type of flow formation, but with different vegetation cover (forest and steppe). Comparison of these hydrographs showed that the time of occurrence of the main phases of the hydrological regime, and in particular, the spring flood, on the Aktay river and on the steppe and forest territories practically coincides. But there is a clear difference in the magnitude of the peak (maximum expenditure) of the flood. In steppe areas, the maximum flood is higher than in forest catchments.
