The impact of sanctions on the scientific community

This article examines the impact of economic sanctions on the scientific community, in particular, academic research. The author introduces the concept of sanctions and explains why they are a matter of concern in the field of sustainability of academic infrastructure. The desire of the scientific community abroad to sever academic and research ties with Russia is gaining momentum as more and more Western governments and organizations impose scientific sanctions. The extension of sanctions to academia damages the entire research community - scientific cooperation and diplomacy must go beyond national borders and politics.
