The intensity of microbial processes of production and destruction of organic matter was determined in the water and sediments of Lake Baikal. It was revealed that temperature is an important factor in the regulation of microbial activity in various parts of Lake Baikal. Studies showed that the psychrophilic microbial community plays an important role in the cycle of matter and energy at low temperatures in Baikal.
