To achieve sustainable development of the agricultural region, one of the most important resources is precisely labor potential. In modern conditions of development of the country’s economy, the labor potential of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation is one of the main competitive advantages of the region and factors of sustainable economic growth. As you know, the lack of labor resources hinders the development of promising sectors of the economy of the country and the region, and the excess - to increase unemployment and increase social tension in society. The article discusses aspects of the impact of labor potential on the sustainability of the development of the agricultural region. Based on the analysis of the dynamics of changes in the rural population over the years, the features of the current state and labor resources of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic are revealed. In the republic, the rural population not only prevails, but its share remains unchanged - more than 57 %, which is more than two times more than in Russia as a whole. The labor resources of Karachay-Cherkessia far exceed the number of people employed in the economy of the republic, which indicates the presence of labor potential that needs to be involved in the economy by creating new jobs and stimulating the development of personal subsidiary plots of the population.
