PURPOSE OF THE STUDY. The work is aimed at identifying the effect of the value of the charging voltage on reducing the capacity of lead-acid batteries. RESEARCH METHODS. The impact has been estimated by the measured capacity of lead-acid batteries before and after testing in three groups, each of which has been assigned a charging voltage of 101.5%; 105.5% and 109.5% of the voltage of a fully charged sealed lead-acid storage battery according to GOST R 53165-2008. At the same time, other parameters of charge and discharge for each group of batteries has been remained unchanged. RESULTS OF THE STUDY. During the study, it has been found that at a charging voltage of 101.5% of the open circuit potential, the largest decrease in the capacity of lead-acid batteries has been observed, while at a voltage of 109.5% of the open circuit potential, the decrease in capacity has been the smallest. CONCLUSIONS. Charging lead-acid batteries with a voltage of 109.5% of the open circuit potential helps to reduce the loss of battery capacity compared to cases when the charging voltage is set below this value.
