The article substantiates the relevance for the organization of the analysis of the external and internal environment in the market. The concept of the external environment of the organization and the mechanism of its influence on the organization as an open system are given. The main factors of the external environment of the organization are identified and systematized, the organization's capabilities to influence them are shown, as well as the limitations that arise when developing a strategy, planning, and managing. The toolkit for diagnosing the external environment and its capabilities are characterized, the need for systematization and discussion of the results of the analysis of the external environment, the use of various sources of information is substantiated. It is shown that taking into account only environmental factors of direct influence in management cannot provide an effective basis for decision-making: it is no less, and often more important, to understand and characterize the degree of influence of environmental factors of indirect influence.
