In modern conditions of the Russian society development and increased migratory mobility of the population we observe a noticeable change in the distribution of citizens around the country that, certainly, influences socio-economic development of regions. The study of key migration trends at the country-wide level does not provide an objective picture of the nature of movements within its territory. It is only possible to assess internal migration processes with regard to territorial differences of regions. The article analyzes inter-regional population movements in relation to the socio-economic situation of subjects in 2006 and 2016. To carry out this study, the author divides regions into groups depending on migration growth (loss). Comparison of the obtained groups and the main indicators of socio-economic development of territories makes it possible to estimate structural changes in regional migration processes and socio-economic situation. Statistical data on 85 RF subjects for 2006 and 2016 comprise an initial basis for theanalysis. The study concludes that migration flows in the Russian Federation are mainly associated with the socio-economic state of region’s residents. Subjects are heterogeneous in the structure of migration flows, the number of regions with migration decline increased during the period under consideration, and the gap in socio-economic development between regions, on the contrary, decreased. It is reasonable to conduct a deeper study of internal Russian migration factors, as their hierarchy may be different and new motives may appear, for example, self-value of the change of residence. The results of the study can be of practical interest to researchers in the field of demography, migration and sociology, as well as representatives of the authorities implementing demographic, migration and social policy.
