Military functions of voivodes in Perm Kama region in the late XVI - XVII centuries

The article deals with the order of military functioning of the voivode governance in Perm region in the late of XVI - XVII centuries. The author defines common organizational principles of voivode military governance in Rus­sia in general and in Perm Kama region in particular, characterizes the system of voivode titles appointed in Perm Kama region, describes the military character of voivode governance. The voivode governance appeared in Cherdyn in the 1570s and gradually spread to the territory of Perm Kama region. The voivodes were responsible for construct­ing towns and primarily fortresses and arsenals. They had to monitor the state of the outposts. In the XVII century the voivodes formed and sent units for military service, protected territories and local population, organized military campaigns, took measures to maintain fortifications. The Perm voivodes interacted with the administration of other Russian territories and sometimes established diplomatic relations. The voivode governance operated successfully in the field of military service and supported military forces of the Russian state.
