Military museums in the context of cultural modernization of Russia in the XVIII-XIX centuries

The article presents the history of the formation and development of military museums of Russia in the XVIII-XIX centuries. The author shows that if initially they were considered as a repository of antiquities, and then at the beginning of the 19th century the educational function was of the primary importance. Since the time of the Alexander II we should talk about the classic military-historical museums, designed to enthrall the memory of the glorious exploits of the Russian army.
