The article is devoted to the study of the canonical views of Wolfram von Eschenbach, a German knight and poet of the turn of the 12th - 13th centuries. The author comes to the conclusion that the Grail in Wolfram's Parzival novel is a symbolic image of Christ the Savior, based on the texts of the Holy Scriptures. It is concluded that Wolfram's views on customary knighthood were based on the statutes of the Knights Templar order, which was approved by Pope Innocent II in Omne datum optimum, and combined the traditional attitude to military prowess as the main quality of a true knight with the cult of the Beautiful Lady. It is shown that the mention in the novel of Wolfram “Parzival” Prester John testifies to the influence on the work of Wolfram a legend born in the East in the setting of the Crusades.
